Dave Schwarz Tennis
My college coaching career began in 2000 when I started a 10 year stint as the Head Men's tennis Coach at Middlebury College. I had the privilege of coaching two NCAA Division III National Championship teams during my time at Middlebury. I was ITA Division III National Coach of the year in 2004 and earned ITA Regional Coach of the year honors in both 2009 and 2010. In 2010, I took over the Men's Tennis Program at Brown University, where I coached until 2014. I am currently the Head Women's Tennis Coach at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges.
I am entering my eighth season as the Head Coach for the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Womens Tennis team. After guiding the Athenas to win the 2018 DIII National Championship as tournament host. After winning the NCAA championship in 2018, I became the first coach in history in any division to win a men's and women's NCAA championship at different schools. During the 2020 season lead the Athenas to win the National Indoor Championship and finished the season ranked number 1 in the country. In the past five seasons, the Athenas have earned five straight SCIAC titles and made five NCAA appearances, with a second place finish in 2019, a third place finish in 2017, and a fourth place finish in 2015 to go along with the national title. I took the Athenas through an undefeated regular season during the 2016-2017 year and led them to the NCAA semifinals that same year. In 2017 I received ITA National Coach of the Year honors.
Over my first seven years with the Athenas, I have compiled a 145-13 record for a .918 winning percentage. I also led CMS to undefeated seasons in the SCIAC in three of my four seasons, putting together a 49-1 career record against conference teams.
Elite College Prospect Camp at CMS and Pomona-Pitzer
In the off season, I turn my attention to developing young players at all levels of the game. The goal of our Elite College Prospect Camp is to prepare junior girls for college tennis in a way that simulates college practices and match play. Coaches and Admissions personnel will also present valuable information on recruiting, admissions, and the college tennis experience. For all levels of college tennis, helping each camper navigate this important process. Three current members of the CMS Women's team were former attendees of camp. We have sold out every year, so please reserve your spot soon!
This year the camp will be co-directed by myself, Dave Schwarz, and Mike Morgan, Pomona-Pitzer Head Women's Coach. Morgan is in his fifth year at the Pomona-Pitzer Colleges. Pomona-Pitzer's last two ITA finishes were 5th and 6th in the country. Morgan previously spent 11 years heading the Middlebury Women's Tennis program which included NCAA quarter final appearances in 2007, 2013, and 2015. Morgan earned ITA National Coach of the Year honors in 2013 and is three-time NESCAC Coach of the Year (2008, 2016, 2017).
